Gravitational Thomas Precession -a Gravitomagnetic Effect ?

چکیده

Gravitational Thomas Precession ( GTP ) is the name given to the Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. In continuation of our discussion on the idea of a GTP, in this note by way of considering the motion of a planet around the Sun, the GTP is shown to be a gravitomagnetic effect that a planet might experience while moving through a gravitational field (say that of the Sun). The contribution of the GTP to the perihelion advance of Mercury is again estimated at 21.49 arc-seconds per century confirming and clarifying our earlier results. PACS: 04.80Cc ; 96.30Dz

After an introduction emphasizing the importance of the gravitomag-netic effect in general relativity, with a resume of some space-based applications , we discuss the so-called magnetic components of gravitational waves (GWs), which have to be taken into account in the context of the total response functions of interferometers for GWs propagating from arbitrary directions. In the weak-field and...

Gravitational Thomas Precession and the Perihelion Advance of Mercury

Gravitational Thomas Precession ( GTP ) is the name given to Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. The GTP gives a negative contribution of 7 · 163 arcsec/century for the anomalous perihelion advance of Mercury’s orbit. This effect seems to be of some concern for the General Relativity. High-precision measurement of frame-dragging with the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in the gravitational field of Mars

In this letter we accurately measure the general relativistic gravitomagnetic Lense-Thirring effect by analyzing the post-fit residuals of the out-of-plane portion of the orbit of the Martian polar orbiter Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) over a time span of about 5 years (14 November 1999-14 January 2005). Our result is μ = 0.9937± 0.0053; general relativity predicts μ = 1. A previous test of the Le...

On the gravitomagnetic effects on the orbits of two counter–orbiting satellites

The effects of the general relativistic gravitomagnetic force on the orbits of a couple of counter–orbiting test particles, denoted as + and –, respectively, in the gravitational field of a central rotating mass are investigated. Based on the fact that, for identical orbital configurations, the secular Lense–Thirring rates of the nodes Ω are the same, contrary to the secular rates of the perige...

M ay 2 00 4 Dirac Spin Precession in Kerr Spacetime by the parallelism description

In the framework of parallelism general relativity (PGR), the Dirac particle spin precession in the rotational gravitational field is studied. In terms of the equivalent tetrad of Kerr frame, we investigate the torsion axial-vector spin coupling in PGR. In the case of the weak field and slow rotation approximation, we obtain that the torsion axialvector has the dipole-like structure, but differ...
